Aelaf D. Worku, MD
Regional Medical Officer, Southeast Region CareMore Health
Aelaf Worku, MD is a physician executive leading value-based care markets. He still practices as an internist in Northeast Washington DC. He brings with him a clinical perspective from years practicing primary care, hospital medicine, and end of life care.
To inform his role as Regional Medical Officer, Aelaf has drawn from his experiences in Academia and Global Health to transform care delivery environments both culturally and quantitatively. He went from leading the turnaround for CareMore’s Nevada Medicare Advantage (MA) market to launching both its NY Complex Care at home MA market and its Washington DC Managed Medicaid market. Part of those successes required getting alignment across different stakeholders through a shared vision and the flexibility of execution that value-based care allows. Aelaf also oversees palliative care markets for Aspire Healthcare, the US’s largest community-based palliative care organization, in its Southeast Region.
In a past life, Aelaf has been a Hospitalist Scholar at the University of Chicago, recognized as a US State Department Health Diplomat for his work in Ethiopia as a quality improvement advisor to Debre Berhan Regional Hospital and helping launch 13 medical schools in 2012.
