Emily Alpert Reyes covers public health for the Los Angeles Times. In more than a decade and a half as a reporter, she has also written about Los Angeles city politics, San Diego schools, the changing demographics of Southern California, and the Gilroy Garlic Festival. Before joining The Times, she worked for the nonprofit news website voiceofsandiego.org, traveled to Bolivia as a fellow with the International Reporting Project, and survived the University of Chicago.
