Omer J. Deen, MD graduated from medical school at Ross University School of Medicine and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Nevada-Reno. He went on to fellowship training in Digestive Disease and Clinical Nutrition at Cleveland Clinic, graduating in 2012. He stayed on staff at Cleveland Clinic following his fellowship prior to moving his practice in Clinical Nutrition to Los Angeles County in 2013.
He spends 100% of his clinical work treating a variety of nutrition disorders, from severe malnutrition, intestinal malabsorption, pancreatic insufficiency, and short bowel syndrome, to morbid obesity as well as eating disorders. In addition to being on the Board of Directors for the National Board of Physician Nutrition Specialists, he has been a member and guest speaker at the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition, is a member of the American Society for Nutrition, is a fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology as well as a fellow of the American Gastroenterological Association.
During his academic career, Dr. Deen has published numerous research articles in reputable peer-reviewed journals, has presented at Digestive Disease Week as well as the annual American College of Gastroenterology conferences, and has authored book chapters regarding nutritional complications of obesity, stroke, and nutritional deficiencies in inflammatory bowel disease. He has devoted his academic and private practice career to the advancement of Clinical Nutrition and remains in practice full-time in Torrance, CA. He is also active in promoting equitable healthcare for the county.
