Chief Nursing Officer at Nurse.org, Clinical Nurse Specialist & Family Nurse Practitioner

“Nurse Alice” Benjamin is a board-certified Clinical Nurse Specialist and Family Nurse Practitioner with over 25 years nursing experience specializing in cardiovascular, emergency medicine and critical care. She currently works on the frontline in the emergency department and is also the Chief Nursing Officer at Nurse.org.


Nurse Alice graduated with honors from San Diego State University with a dual major in Nursing and Psychology. She later obtained a Masters Degree in Nursing Education/Clinical Nurse Specialist and Post- Masters as a Family Nurse Practitioner.


She is a recurring on-air health medical contributor for NBC 4 in Los Angeles and has appeared as a regular for other local and national news networks including The Dr. Oz Show, The Doctors, CNN, HLN, FOX News, TVOne, BBC and KTLA Morning News.  She hosts the weekly podcast, “Ask Nurse Alice” podcast.”


Her health articles have been published in Huffington Post, EBONY, Black Enterprise, JET, Black America Web, AARP, Bustle, XO Necole, Heart & Soul, Nurse.org, The American Nurse, ADVANCE Nursing Magazine, and others. She is also the author of “Curb Your Cravings: 31 Foods to Fool Your Appetite,” and “Your 7-Day Juice Cleanse.”

Nurse Alice is also an ambassador for the American Heart Association and AARP. She was the first nurse to chair the American Heart Association Interdisciplinary Multicultural Health Equity Taskforce responsible for community outreach and education programs in 10 western that impacted over 65 million people. In that role she was responsible for strategically reviewing data and outcomes, and fiscally identifying programs and resources, and implementing them with goals to improve access and quality of healthcare to underserved communities. She also spearheaded the launch the American Stroke Association’s Power to End Stroke Community Program in San Diego County.


As an AARP leadership volunteer, she served as a one of two health professionals in the role of California Affordable Care Act Education Advisor where she underwent extensive Affordable Care Act training in Washington DC. In that role she served as a consultant to numerous Congressmen throughout California and the Covered California community education efforts. She has also been involved in numerous health programs working with the NAACP and National Urban League.


Nurse Alice has remained active in advancing the profession of nursing and in the development of its workforce. Most notably she was the first African American nurse to join the Board of Director for American Nurses Association\California and is currently on the ANA\California Foundation Board of Trustees. She was also a past president for the San Diego and West Los Angeles American Association of Critical-Care Nurses chapters. She has also been an associate and adjunct clinical nursing faculty at various schools of nursing.


She is a national lecturer and social media influencer who presents workshops on various health, wellness, and motivational topics to companies and organizations. She is also the founder and owner of Nurse Approved, LLC, a boutique company that provides consumers with health education, resources, products and services to help them live healthier lives.


In her past she enjoys spending time with her family, gardening, and plays the flute. It is no surprise that because of her continuous community health advocacy and zest for a healthy life she has been coined, America’s Favorite Nurse.
